Good placement figures despite Corona in the MobiJob project
Since the beginning of June, the various MobiJob counseling locations for refugees have been open again for personal discussions. Previously, consultations on work and training only took place on the phone and via video chat due to the corona. In the course of the reopening, not only has the demand for individual advice increased significantly, but placements in the first job market are also showing a positive trend again.
The IQ immigration department analyzed the effects of the lockdown on access to the labor market in June 2020 and highlighted the various consequences: "People without German citizenship are particularly affected by the crisis on the labor market." which many refugees are active, to count. The full analysis is available here on the IQ Network website.
These developments have also made themselves felt in the placements within the framework of the MobiJob project. While in March 2020 there were still 16 refugees who found a job with the help of MobiJob, in April and May combined there were only eleven. But since the resumption of personal advice on site, these numbers have been rising again.
"Especially through the very intensive personal advice over several one-on-one meetings, we can help people even in times of crisis," explains the project manager of MobiJob Nora Kempmann. In the months of June, July and August (as of August 19, 2020), a total of 42 refugees found a job in the primary job market through MobiJob. The industries are very diverse, but most people were able to find employment in the areas of transport and warehousing as well as in the manufacturing industry including crafts.
The refugees who were placed also include eight people who, despite the challenging economic situation, signed an apprenticeship contract in Berlin. "Two of our advice-seekers, who will start their training in autumn, have even found work in professions that have been severely affected by Corona," Nora Kempmann continues. "A young man from Syria who is starting an apprenticeship as a hairdresser and an Iranian who is becoming a hotel manager." The MobiJob team is continuing to closely monitor the effects of the pandemic on the labor market integration of refugees and is always trying to find individual solutions together with all those seeking advice to find.
