Milestone on the way to a dream job: The story of Abdal

Abdal is certain that he would like to turn his passion for politics and journalism into a career in Germany. In order to get a little closer to his goal, Abdal decided to do a federal voluntary service with the Iranian Community in Germany eV parallel to his German course.

With a Federal Volunteer Service (BFD), people of any age can work for an organization for 12 months (sometimes shorter or longer). There are very different possibilities: in the social, ecological and cultural areas, but also in the area of sport or integration. You get pocket money for your work and you are automatically a member of the statutory pension, accident, health, nursing care and unemployment insurance. Not only do the volunteers work for the common good, but they also receive valuable professional experience that will help them in their careers.

We at MobiJob wish Abdal all the best for the future! Here is his story in his own words:

Last year on 15th of August 2021 the Taliban collapsed Afghanistan, and thousands of Afghans have left their homeland and flee to different countries. Thousands of those Afghans who have worked with different German organizations and military forces have been evacuated to Germany. I was one of them.

When I came here, due to lack of German language knowledge, it was too hard to cope with the problems I had here. After three months I have started German language course, then I have started searching for a minijob with an organization with the English as medium of working environment. Luckily, I have got an appointment with MobiJob, and I had a counselling session with them regarding my concerns for the job. They have recommended to me the volunteer service with the Iranische Gemeinde in Deutschland e.V. (IGD) which will help me with my future career as a starting point.

At the beginning of my volunteer service with the IGD I had an introductory interview with them and fortunately they have been agreed with me to start volunteer service in the IGD. Working as volunteer will help me to get familiar with the working environment here in Deutschland and will help me improve my skills day by day. It also helped me to learn Deutsch language quickly and professionally.

I am very happy with the work I am currently doing; the working environments have helped me to avoid stress and get rid of mental pressure during daily life.

„I recommend everyone! Especially refugees, to strive for their wellness, growth, and self-development, this is only possible when they find a proper responsibility, learning environment, or job.“ – Abdul
